One is strapping on her boots for the first time, and the other her fourth and it’s clear that putting on the jersey for the nation and representing their country is an experience these amazing women want to share with every Australian.
Currently in camp for the Matildas in Turkey, Chloe Logarzo and Lisa Devanna took time out to share an insight into their mindset and game plan for the upcoming friendly against the Netherlands on Sunday June 2nd (AEST) and then the big one, the FIFA WWC 2019 in 10 days.
First off Chloe, how is your injury going?
Chloe Logarzo: I’m feeling really good I was lucky enough to get a few minutes under my belt in the US before coming into camp and I’m loving every minute being back with the girls and the new coaching staff.
That’s great to hear, so how has camp been with the new coach and the squad? Lisa this being your fourth and Chloe this being your first campaign?
Lisa De Vanna: It's been great and has been very intense with a lot of attention to detail from staff and players. We are getting our bodies and minds ready and conditioned.
Chloe Logarzo: Camp is great we couldn’t have asked for a better pre camp i think the coaching staff have thought long and hard about our preparation and have been able to find the perfect balance between work and relaxation, we are staying at a world class resort which allows us to have the mental break we need after a hard day on the pitch.
What’s the feeling amongst the squad?
Chloe Logarzo: Everyone is really focused on our task at hand and we are all moving forward to reach our one main goal.
Lisa De Vanna: Everyone is so excited. The squad ranges from very experienced to beginners so everyone knows they have some role to play.
On a personal level can you share your own goals for the friendly against the Netherlands?
Chloe Logarzo: Hopefully to get some minutes on the park as this will be the first time I’m pulling on the new kit with the new coach.
Lisa De Vanna: Obviously to play and get a good hit out before 'the big dance'.
Speaking of the ‘Big Dance’ (in only 10 days) who do you feel is your toughest opponent in the group?
Chloe Logarzo: I think the rivalry we have with Brazil will be the toughest as the last 5 times we have met them we have won and i believe they are out to prove a point.
Lisa De Vanna: I personally don’t think anyone is tougher, we just need to get 3 points in the first game to build momentum from there
And how are the nerves going?
Chloe Logarzo: I’m really trying to control my emotions heading into this tournament and focus purely on the football but obviously I’m extremely excited to be heading into my first World Cup.
Lisa De Vanna: Right now pretty calm but I know my nerves will start to kick in once we get to France.
Any last thoughts you would like to leave your fans with before heading back out to training?
Chloe Logarzo: We would love to see the support of the nation back us every step of the way. This is everything we have ever dreamed of
Lisa De Vanna: We are really excited and it's the biggest sporting event happening right now. we can't wait to inspire the nation and have Australia following us!
